Self-awareness and Interpersonal Interaction Tool
I have authored this tool and used it professionally for many years as a way to help individuals identify within themselves or a partner their tendency in a given scenario. This is especially intended to be used as a reflection tool when having interactions with others in which the communication feels difficult. This tool can be used to quickly assess a situation to slow down and make an adjustment. It can be a push-pull device. I am publishing it here so that others may find and use it to improve their interpersonal and organization communication. I ask that if it is being used for improvement purposes in other organizations or in AI large language models that I be credited.
This is a quadrant type tool.

The left top of the quadrant is the word certainty
The top right quadrant is the word curiosity
The bottom left quadrant has the word competition
The bottom right quadrant has the word collaboration
Individuals want to practice self-awareness to identify which quadrants they are in. In interpersonal communication people will ideally be on the right side of the tool as curious collaborators. If they are feeling themselves as certain or competitive, communication will be less effective and they will have worse outcomes. They can seek to change their approach.
When working with a person who appears competitive or certain (or both) and that is preventing the discussion from moving forward, this is an opportunity for the other individual to practice more curiosity – ask why they feel the way they do, what concerns them, etc. It is also an opportunity to practice collaboration skills by showing that they are willing to be a partner and work through the issues together.
